Unbelievable, but true: german producers slowly come up with vegan cream cheese! Finally, I could buy some cream cheese at store in my area, it is less expensive than to have to order some all the time. But can this one compete with the extraordinary cream cheese of Tofutti? When I was recently in Braunschweig, the next bigger city to my hometown, I found it in a health food store. There was only one of this cream cheese left, only this one with herbs. There also is one cream cheese with natural flavour produced. Looks like there were more people curoíous. This cream cheese substitute is produced by "Heirler". You usally only get this brand at health food stores. Its price is at 1,95€. That is less than I pay for Tofutti, it does cost me more than the double of it in online stores.I tested it and here is my result: it is creamy, herby, but also it tastes a bit fatty. No wonder, it has 21g fat on 100g. For my taste there is too much dill in it, the flavour of dill is very strong in this cream cheese. It have a firm texture which isn´t that bad. It is nice, but I have to admit: the cream cheese of Tofutti is better. Although the Tofutti cream cheeses have more calories than this one; this one has on 100g 166 kcal and the Tofutti has 290 kcal.
I know, I know, it´s been a long time since I posted the last time. I´m so sorry guys! Of course, I didn´t forget you, I just had no time. The academy urged me to have to learn a lot, then there were birthdays... But as you can see, I still did something. For the birthday of my father I came up with this pie. I had to do it without any soyproducts, as my parents don´t like it. Anyway, I hid some okara in the pie crust. Watch for yourself: I used for the pie crust:
1 c spelt flour3 T okara3 T grinded almonds
1/4 c dried pineapple
1 T Amaretto
some water
At first I shredded the pineapple together with the almonds until it formed a ball. In a bowl I mixed it with the flour, okara and Amaretto. I added as much water until it formed a nice texture to form a pie crust. I filled it into the tie form and formed the crust.
For the filling:
1/4 c rice, cooked with half a liter rice milk for rice pudding
cashew cream made of 1/3 c cashews and some water to form a cream
2 T Amaretto
1 T brown rum1 pckg vanilla sugar
2T spelt flour
pineapple and peaches, some shredded almonds
Cook the rice pudding of the 1/4 c rice. In the meantime prepare the cashew cream. For that just put the cashews into a blender and add slowly per spoon some water until it forms the consistency of a cream. When the rice pudding is done, mix it together with the cashew cream and blend until the rice is totally gone. Add the flour, vanilla sugar, Amaretto and rum. You can also leave this out, I just made it for the taste and because I know my father loves these tastes. Now fill it into the pie crust and put some pineapples and peaches on it, as much you like. For decoration sprinkle some almonds on it.
Let the pie bake at 350°F in the preheated oven for about 45 mins, so that the cream is firm.
